Why did I move away from WordPress?

Posted: January 31, 2014

A few months ago I was introduced to a new CMS platform (of which I won’t reveal the name of). Excited by this new prospect I migrated my entire website over and launched the site. All seemed to be going well, then one day… disaster! My website wouldn’t load. Nothing would load.

I got in touch with my hosting provider… everything was fine, nothing was broken at their end. There were no error messages appearing on the website, nothing showing up in any logs to say there were problems, no sign of what was causing the website not to load. I hadn’t made any amendments to the website within 3 weeks of the site going down and there had been no changed to any of the files.

So rather than burden myself any further trying to get my head around why this “awesome” CMS that was apparently “built for you” wasn’t working and returned back to the old faithful that is WordPress.

I’m still re-instating parts of this website as we speak, but it should all be back up and running shortly.

A few weeks ago I was approached by “Postcards From Jeff” about designing and developing their website to coincide with the launch of the EP, and I’m pleased to announce and introduce you to the “multi-layered experimentalism” of melodic explorer, Postcards From Jeff.

Laravel 4.0 is here!

laravel4-hello-72dpiYes, I know… this news is only really relevant to developers but… IT’S HERE!

For those who don’t know, Laravel is a free, open-source PHP web application framework, and just this week the latest version came out.

Basically, a web application framework makes it easier for developers to build their application. Most sites tend to have a common set of functionality (like handling sessions, data validation, etc) and a framework is something that prevents you from re-writing the same things each time you create a website.
